Pop In The City

Pop In The City

Pop In The City is a custom-built installation occupying the plaza adjacent to Greeley Square Park on Broadway between 32nd and 33rd Streets. This 120ft long walk-through experience consists of a series of interconnected domes, each housing separate interactive element that reflect an immersive and abstract take on New York, its people, and its culture.

For four weeks this summer, a corner of midtown Manhattan will transform into the most surreal celebration of pop culture ever to erupt in the city, overflowing with color, light, and fantastical, family fun.

Visitors enter the experience through a giant slide dropping them into an ocean of 500,000 translucent balls – just the first of many “wow” moments that guests will experience as they walk, swim, and slide their way through this incredible breath-taking structure. Adorning the interior walls of the space will be a variety of oversized sculptures, which all act as a nod to the host location: the inimitable city of New York. Big apples, big buildings, big pizza, and various other NYC icons are immortalized in oversized and striking inflatable art.

The impressive “glitterball dome,” inspired by the city’s iconic Studio 54, contains a performance stage, cutting-edge lighting, and special effects, alongside 100 shimmering disco balls suspended from the ceiling. A rotating pool of carefully curated DJs, MCs,
musicians, and performers will bring a live element to this experience. Meanwhile, “Winter in the City,” a space filled with snowballs (of course!), snowmen, and real live snow, brings a taste of winter to the middle of summer.

Designed and conceptualized by XL Event Lab, responsible for The World’s Largest Bounce House and international hit The Parking Lot Social, Pop in The City is the most joyous way of having a ball this summer. Josh Kinnersley, from XL Event Lab: “New York has seen some pretty wild things, but we don’t think there’s ever been anything like this before. We’re taking inspiration from the city and mashing it together with balls of every shape and size. It’s an ode to the orb, a rejoicing
of the round. You’ll have a ball!”
