Each woman has also had a relationship with the Apollo and New York City. Their paths as performers have also crossed in numerous ways. They represent a generation of women whose careers blossomed during a time of significant societal change and allowed them to push past the boundaries of categorization frequently imposed upon Black women performers.

\nMelba Moore is a Tony Award-winning singer and actress who appeared in Hair, Purlie, and Timbuktu on Broadway and also achieved success as a performing and recording artist.
\nDionne Warwick\u2019s voice helped define the sound of the 1960s as her name became synonymous with the music of Hal David and Burt Bacharach. A multi-GRAMMY Award winner, Dionne Warwick\u2019s early career in music was as part of the Gospel group The Gospelaires winning Apollo Amateur Night in 1957. Her solo career was powered by her appearances at the Apollo where her poised, classic style and powerful voice made her an audience favorite.
\nLeslie Uggams\u2019 professional performing career started at the Apollo when she was just nine years old. A Tony and an Emmy Award winner, known for her work as a live and recorded performer, stage, television and film actress, she remains a giant in the entertainment to this day.
