Shops at the Oculus - Lunar New Year Virtual Classes - A Bite of China

unar New Year Virtual Classes – A Bite of China

by

China Institute advances a deeper understanding of China through programs in education, culture, art, and business. Founded in 1926, China Institute is the oldest bicultural, independent, non-profit organization in America to focus exclusively on China and our School of Chinese Studies is the oldest educational center of its kind in the United States.

Families are invited to make dumplings to celebrate Chinese New Year! The shape of the dumpling represents ancient precious metal ingots so they are associated with wealth and blessings of abundance for the new year. Many Chinese families will gather to make dumplings each year and we bring this tradition to New York City kitchens for families of all backgrounds.

This one-hour virtual class is designed for a maximum of 25 participants, and an ingredient list will be provided ahead of time. Children will learn a brief history of dumplings as they relate to Chinese culture and Lunar New Year, and easy Chinese vocabulary words, while assembling and cooking their own- with help from parents. No previous Chinese language nor cooking skills required.

Please pick-up your bag with the recipe included by Friday, February 5 at the Shops on the Go Space in the Shops at the Oculus, West Concourse Lower Level.
