Truck Jewelry Exhibition: 50 Yrs of Hip Hop Style at NYC Jewelry Week 2023.

A 50 year hip hop jewelry style journey curated by Shara McHayle through hand painted canvases by acclaimed graffitti and fine artist BlusterOne. Including an in-depth conversation with “Raekwon” from the legendary WuTang Clan to discuss hip hop jewelry style, inspiration and influence at the F.I.T. “Great Hall” Monday, November 13, 2023

BlusterOne

Acclaimed graffiti and fine artist, born and raised in the Lower East Side of NYC in the 1970’s. The graffiti scrawls, primal lettering and colorful murals sparked his interest in art. 1982 he took on the pen name “BlusterOne”, and joined the graffiti art movement. An original member of The Barnstormers. Bluster’s work has been shown internationally and continues to be sought after and collected. He is also most notable as co-founder of PNB Nation, one of the earliest fashion streetwear brands of the 90’s. Bluster’s recent work “Good Strange” is a color palette of black and orange inspired by Keith Haring famous “Crack Is Wack” murals. . He continues to participate in the beautification of the Bronx with murals on the Boone Avenue and Mott Haven Walls that can be seen today.

Shara McHayle

Jewelry designer, streetwear veteran, entrepreneur and co-founder of Hoop88Dreams. Raised in Brooklyn’s housing project in the 1970’s, McHayle’s fashion career began in the early 90’s. Directing the marketing & sales strategy at PNB Nation, the first statement-driven streetwear brand. Leading a marketing and sales strategy that catapulted PNB Nation’s revenue to 11.5 million dollars becoming a global brand. McHayle launched Hoop88Dreams with her daughter, an e-commerce platform that specializes exclusively in hoop earrings. Hoop88Dreams was recently on display with over (14) loaned pieces within the Museum at FIT, contextualizing the hoop earring within hip hop and currently has loan objects on display at the Grammy Museum latest exhibit Hip Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit in Los Angeles on display through the Summer of 2024. McHayle draws on the intrinsic nature of hip hop and continues to bet on herself and the culture that has shaped her.
