Join the dance with Thousand Masks, which celebrates the cultural diversity found throughout Africa or immerse yourself in Afrotude, a transformative audio-visual installation that resonates with your movements. “Aṣẹ” (pronounced “AH-shay”), the title of the exhibition, is derived from a powerful mantra, affirmation, and philosophical belief held by the Yoruba people of West Africa, meaning “so will it be.” It is invoked to produce positive change, and its spirit echoes throughout the exhibit.
The exhibition’s centerpiece, Vision of the Black Experience, guides us through themes of resilience, cultural celebration, and future possibilities. The primary cinematic experience is complemented by interactive auxiliary galleries that expand on themes of rebirth, community, and spiritual connection.
