If you are a New Yorker, when you think or hear the two words East Harlem, you think of food, family and culture. The 2nd Annual Taste of East Harlem was held on June 21st at the beautiful Union Settlement Community Garden, located at 237 East 104th Street. Taste of East Harlem represented a feeling that simply stated
” welcome you belong here”. This tasteful food festival had some of the best local cuisine vendors from all around the community which included Caribbean, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Italian, Dominican.

There were over 17 vendors which included Sisters Caribbean Cuisine, El Paso Mexican, Egg Roll Queen, Sabor Boriqueno, Cake Burger and many more. Each participating vendor had such great uniqueness in flavors, we couldn’t help ourselves, we circled the garden quite a few times making sure we didn’t miss anything . Delicious margarita cocktails by Amor Cubano, local craft beer from East Harlem Bottling Co. & Yave Tequila which is one of the world’s first mango tequila with no added sugar.

The garden was packed with a diverse crowd of foodies super excited and ready to eat. Where there is great food there is always great music, played by Ochun Afro-Latin Band. Thank you Union Settlement “Buy Local East Harlem” for having us. Buy Local East Harlem is an initiative led by Union Settlement, with support from Citi Community Development to encourage everyone in East Harlem, particularly larger organizations and entities, to support local businesses by creating relationships that will allow for the longevity of small businesses becoming suppliers to these institutions. Union Settlement is an on-the-ground resource for East Harlem residents of all ages, and a passionate advocate for the needs of undeserved communities. We are truly looking forward to whats in store next year!
