SPRING SPRUNG
Spring Sprung is a mobile installation made from paper-pulp by Brooklyn-based, Japanese designer and artist, Yuko Nishikawa.
Nishikawa hand forms the paper elements with air-dried clay that she makes from used rolls of paper collected from artists and photographers in her Brooklyn studio building. The rich colors come directly from the colors of the donated paper, with no added paints or pigments. To produce additional colors and textures, she combines multiple papers the way she would mix paints. The forms, Nishikawa refers to as ‘cookies,’ are light-weight and durable when dry. When assembled with music wire into airy mobiles, the forms float and turn slowly in the air.
